Zillertaler Höhenstraße

One of Austria's most beautiful alpine roads

With a length of 48 km and a total altitude difference of 1,470 m, this high road promises unforgettable views of the Zillertal Alps.

Originally intended to help farmers manage their alpine pastures and improve access to build flood barriers, word soon spread about the gorgeous panoramic views along this road. And so it was that a scenic road was opened to the public.

Experience the wonderful natural setting, where a few staffed hill farms still bear witness to the unspoiled, pristine nature of these amazing landscapes.

The only alpine garden in Zillertal - at an elevation of ca. 1,800 m - offers insight into the botanical variety of the Alps. On the idyllic Alpine Flower Path in the direction of the alpine garden, you can marvel at the region's most beautiful  mountain flowers, with as many as 60 different plants represented here in the summer months.

Whether by car, bus, or bike - a ride from 550 m up to 2,020 m is an exceptionally beautiful experience.
